WELCOME
We are thankful for the opportunity to share with you our vision for cultural revitalization and wellness in southeastern North Carolina. The United Katehnuaka Longhouse, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to promote the physical, spiritual and economic wellbeing of Indigenous Peoples dwelling in the lands of Eastern North Carolina.
We are determined to address the historical trauma and increasing crisis of identity that threatens our collective communities. The traumas that our People have historically faced, including oppression and marginalization, continue to haunt our efforts to move forward and heal. Substance abuse, poor mental and physical health, and poverty are ever-present issues in our Indigenous communities.
Our People face many obstacles, but we are working to overcome them. We have a strong culture that can effectively combat these problems. We are revitalizing traditions that will help our People remember their strength and hope. These traditions are key to promoting health among our People. We see a need to focus and concentrate these essential efforts in one central location, a community longhouse.
